Nonprofit organization helps Ghanian community in the Bronx through scholarships, events

HIGHBRIDGE – Members of a nonprofit organization say they’re doing what they can to improve the quality of life in the Bronx and in their homeland of Ghana.

The Kwakwaduam Association of New York says it helps the Ghanian community in the Bronx by handing out scholarships and hosting networking events to bring immigrants of Ghanian descent together.

The association also raises money through community events like dinner dances, which they use to send medical supplies back to Ghana along with providing basic needs like a water system for a school for the blind.

Dr. Stephen Asiedu, the recently elected president of the association, believes the group can grow and help even more people.

The nonprofit has been running for over a decade.
